What is the MSc about?
The MSc “Inventory and Monitoring of Forests, Forest Lands and Protected Areas” combines forest inventory, sampling, forest structure, GIS, remote sensing, carbon-stock monitoring, protected-area management and statistical data analysis.
Is the programme taught in English?
The English website and this guide provide programme information for international readers. They do not establish a separate English-taught route. Admission requires sufficient knowledge of English. Foreign applicants must also provide the Greek-language certificate specified in the call unless they completed secondary education in Greece or at a Greek-language school abroad. Contact the Secretariat about teaching and assessment language arrangements before applying.
Who can apply?
Holders of first-cycle higher-education degrees from Greek universities/TEIs or eligible foreign institutions may apply. A forestry degree is not required. The Secretariat checks foreign institution and award-type eligibility. English proficiency and, where applicable, a Greek-language certificate are required.
How long does it last, and how many ECTS does it award?
Normal study lasts at least two semesters with an intensive summer period. The programme awards 75 ECTS: eight compulsory courses of 7.5 ECTS each and a compulsory traineeship of 15 ECTS.
Is a separate master’s dissertation required?
The published 2026 curriculum requires eight compulsory courses and the 375-hour traineeship. It does not list a separate master’s dissertation. Assignments and the written traineeship report remain part of the educational requirements.
How much teaching is online?
For each course, the published structure allocates 35 of 39 teaching hours to synchronous online teaching via MS Teams and four to in-person teaching. The Regulation permits up to 90% synchronous distance participation in lectures. This percentage applies to lectures, not to the entire programme or traineeship.
Do I have to attend the four in-person hours?
Attendance is compulsory, but absences up to 30% of each course’s scheduled hours are permitted. The four in-person hours are approximately 10.3% of 39 hours and fall within that allowance if your total absences remain within the limit. Assessment and traineeship requirements still apply. Confirm your individual arrangements before making travel plans.
How are courses assessed?
A listed examination date does not, by itself, require physical attendance. The assessment method is determined by the lecturer, following consultation with students and in accordance with the MSc Regulation. Assessment arrangements are announced at the start of each course. Assessment can involve written or oral examinations, assignments, presentations, reports or a combination. The grading scale is 0–10, with 5 required to pass.
Can I combine the programme with employment?
The online lecture component can help working students participate. The approved winter semester timetable for 2026–2027 schedules online classes on Mondays and Tuesdays from 14:55. The spring semester timetable remains provisional and dates and times may change. Check each course’s eClass space for course announcements. Classes are synchronous and attendance requirements apply. Part-time study is possible for eligible applicants, including those working at least 20 hours per week with the required evidence, under Article 7 of the Regulation.
How does the traineeship work?
The compulsory summer traineeship is 375 hours and carries 15 ECTS. A host organisation, work plan and supervisor are arranged through the programme, with an agreement between the University, the student and the host. Assessment considers the host’s evaluation and the student’s written report.
Can the traineeship take place remotely or outside Greece?
Remote work is possible if supported by the host and if educational supervision is ensured. A placement abroad is also possible where supervision is feasible. The programme must approve the individual placement and its arrangements; neither option is automatic.
What are the tuition fees?
Total tuition is €1,800, in three instalments of €600. The first is due within ten days of completing enrolment; the next two are due within ten days of the start of the corresponding study period. The Secretariat supplies payment instructions. Fee exemptions and the €600 excellence award are subject to the applicable criteria and decisions.
When and how do I apply for 2026–2027?
Applications are accepted from 2 June–30 September 2026 (closed). The call required the completed application form and supporting documents to be emailed to otemperi@affil.duth.gr. See the application steps in English and the official call (Greek).
Can I apply before my first degree is issued?
The call permits applications by candidates who have not yet completed the graduation formalities, subject to the specified declaration and submission of the degree and transcript before enrolment. Check the precise requirements with the Secretariat before submitting.
Does an enquiry form count as an application?
An enquiry or advertising lead form requests information. To apply formally, submit the official application form and supporting documents to the Secretariat. Admission is followed by a separate acceptance and enrolment process.
Does this MSc award a pedagogical or teaching qualification?
The programme website states that the MSc does not award pedagogical and teaching competence. It provides postgraduate specialisation in its stated forestry and environmental subject areas.
Where can I find the timetable and get help?
View the 2026–2027 timetables online or download the two semester schedules in Greek Word format. Only the winter semester timetable has been approved; the spring semester timetable remains provisional. For questions, email the Secretariat: otemperi@affil.duth.gr.

Admission · Written English examination
Applicants without evidence of English proficiency
Applicants whose English proficiency is not evidenced by the certificate required in the call take a written examination, graded on a scale from 0 to 10, under Article 5 of the MSc Regulation (Greek).
Professor Kyriaki Kitikidou is responsible for organising, conducting and grading the examination from the 2026–2027 admissions procedure onwards, under the Department Assembly decision of 25 September 2026 (meeting 4; notification ΔΠΘ/ΤΔΠΦΠ/6248/216 of 29 September 2026).
The date, time and participation instructions will be communicated in good time to the applicants who need to take the examination. Contact: kkitikid@fmenr.duth.gr.
The online practice sample is optional preparation. Its score is not an admission score or a language certificate; its ten questions and suggested twenty minutes do not determine the format or duration of the official examination.
For MSc students
How do I access eClass and find course announcements?
Enrolment by course coordinators. Course coordinators enrol students in each course’s eClass space after MSc enrolment closes and before classes begin. Enrolment in the MSc through the Secretariat and access to course spaces are separate steps.
Course announcements. Announcements for each course are published in that course’s eClass space. Check its “Announcements” section regularly.
Access requires your DUTH institutional account and enrolment in the course space. If you cannot access a course when classes begin, contact its coordinator in writing.
The MSc website remains the source for general programme announcements and administrative information.
